What is the State Printing and Stationery Department, Uttarakhand?
The State Printing and Stationery Department, Uttarakhand, functioned as the headquarters under the Director of Printing and Stationery Department, Uttar Pradesh, before 2002. From November 9, 2000, when Uttarakhand became a separate state, this department has been operating as a non-profit service department under the state government. It is financially supported under the state sector and is responsible for printing and publishing official documents for the government departments of the state.
The Government Printing Press, Roorkee, was established with the aim of maintaining a structured government printing system to provide official documents, rules, regulations, and government orders for administrative departments and public use.
The headquarters (Directorate) of the department is known as the Directorate of Government Printing Press, Uttarakhand, and is located within the premises of the Government Printing Press, Roorkee. It operates under the administrative and technical supervision of the Director (Head of Department). Additionally, the department has proposed mini branch printing presses.
MISSION
Formation, Objectives, and Functioning of the Department
The Department of Industrial Development of the State Government, under the administrative control of License-2, is responsible for the State Printing Department, Uttar Pradesh. Its duties include printing enforcement materials for the Honorable Governor, the General Administration Secretariat, and all other government departments, as well as executing district-level tasks and overseeing them. This department operates under the British and Stationery Manual and, according to the manual, has the sole objective of printing, publishing, and supplying materials for all government departments.
The working system of the State Printing Department, Uttar Pradesh, includes registration of various categories of government departments and the printing of essential materials such as registers for education, revenue, general and special gazettes, financial and audit reports of the Accountant General, performance budgets, high school and intermediate examination answer booklets of the Uttar Pradesh Board of Education, various examination-related materials, documents of the Public Service Commission, publications of the Honorable High Court, election ballots for Lok Sabha, local bodies, and Panchayats, proceedings of legislative assemblies, agendas, and other printing, publication, and supply tasks.
Additionally, confidential works of government departments are also handled, including government orders, royal decrees, appointments, reports, police department gazettes, confidential orders of CDOs, storage of classified documents, and printing and publication of departmental examination materials.
The Director (Head of Department) oversees the administrative control of government departments and the execution of departmental office tasks. Printing and supply of enforcement materials for government departments in 13 districts of the state are also managed under this supervision.
